Lesson 3 of 7

Check what is nearby

3 min

Find the closest stations, stops, schools, hospitals, shops and parks, and choose how far to look.

Access to transport, schools and shops shapes who buys and what they pay. The property panel can list the nearest of each from public data, pinned on the map as numbered markers. It loads nothing until you ask.

  1. 1

    Open "Nearby places"

With a property selected, open the "Nearby places" section of the panel. It appears only for states where the data is held, which today means Victoria. Until you select a property it says "Select a property to search near it."

  2. 2

    Choose what to look for

Under "What to look for", pick one of: "Train stations", "Tram stops", "Bus stops", "Schools", "Hospitals", "Community health centres", "Shopping centres" or "Parks". It says "Nothing is loaded until you search."

  3. 3

    Choose how far to look

Beside "Within", set the distance: 500 m, 1 km, 2 km, 5 km, 10 km or 20 km. The default is 5 km.

  4. 4

    Choose how many to show

  5. 5

    Search and read the list

  6. 6

    Read the distances correctly

  7. 7

    Clear it
