Lesson 4 of 5

Layers, measurement and map controls

5 min

Turn on planning layers, measure a site, and control the view.

Beyond the selected parcel, the map is a planning layer viewer. The Layers panel controls what is drawn; the toolbar controls how you look at it and lets you measure directly on the map.

  1. 1

    Open the Layers panel

Select "Layers" on the right of the toolbar. The panel opens with three Victorian groups: "Planning Zones", "Planning Overlays" and "Additional Layers".

  2. 2

    Toggle zones and overlays

Each group is a checkbox list with a colour swatch, the code and its description. Use "Select all" at the top of a group to switch the whole set on or off.

  3. 3

    Search for a layer

Use the search field (placeholder "Search layers...") to filter by code or description — matching groups expand automatically.

  4. 4

    Add the extra layers

  5. 5

    Measure an area

  6. 6

    Measure a distance

  7. 7

    Control the view
