Lesson 3 of 5

Refine the envelope

6 min

Override height, setbacks, coverage and garden area to test a specific design.

The generated envelope is the rule-driven starting point. When you want to test a design that departs from it — a lower height, a deeper street setback, a wall on the boundary — the "Refine envelope" controls let you override each input and see the effect immediately.

  1. 1

    Expand the controls

Select "Refine envelope". A badge shows how many values you have overridden, for example "2 custom".

  2. 2

    Set the pathway

Under "DTC pathway", choose "Auto", "Clause 54", "Clause 55" or "Clause 57". Pathways the zone does not support are disabled and explain why on hover.

  3. 3

    Adjust the numeric rules

Each row shows the current value with a "rule" or "custom" badge. Steppers cover "Max height", "Street setback", "Secondary street setback" (where there is one), "Side setback" and "Rear setback"; sliders cover "Site coverage" and "Garden area". Where the typology sizes dwellings, "Dwelling width" and "Dwelling depth" also appear.

  4. 4

    Set the site conditions

  5. 5

    Force a storey count

  6. 6

    Reset what you changed

  7. 7

    Watch the badge
