Lesson 4 of 5

Work with overlay advisories

5 min

See what overlays would do to your envelope and apply their controls in one click.

Overlays never change the generated geometry by themselves — a Heritage or Design and Development overlay does not automatically shrink the envelope. Land Axis surfaces them separately as advisories, ranked by severity, so you can decide which to model.

  1. 1

    Find the advisory list

In the Envelope tab, the section headed "Not accounted for" lists the overlays affecting the lot, with a count and the line "Overlays never change the geometry above. These would."

  2. 2

    Read the severity

Each row shows a severity dot, the overlay code, a short title, the severity word, and a "Permit" tag where the overlay triggers a permit. Blocker-level findings are called out above the list.

  3. 3

    Open one

Click a row to expand "Why it matters — " and "Likely impact — " for that overlay.

  4. 4

    Apply its controls

  5. 5

    Try the permit-exempt path

  6. 6

Check what could not be mapped
