Lesson 4 of 9

Track allowances that are not in your totals

4 min

Keep provisional sums beside the cost total until you have a quote.

Some costs are known to exist but not yet quoted: a likely substation upgrade, a utility relocation, a sum you are carrying as a placeholder. Land Axis lists these as allowances, beside the total and never in it, so a guess cannot move your margin or a lender figure until you have a quote.

  1. 1

    Find the allowances

Open the "Costs" sheet and scroll below the cost lines to "Allowances not in totals". Its heading carries the sum of the allowances that have a figure. When the study has any, the same line shows on the summary pane and beside the study on the Dashboard.

  2. 2

    Read each line

Each allowance names the item. One that came from a clash found in the design studio is marked "(likely clash)" where the match is not certain. It carries either a figure marked "(your rate)", priced from your own rate library, or "Allowance — get a quote" when you have not set a rate for that kind of asset.

  3. 3

Add a provisional sum of your own

Select "Add provisional sum", describe it (for example "Substation upgrade") and enter an amount ex GST. Leave the amount blank if you only want a reminder that a quote is needed, then select "Add". "Remove" takes one of your own sums off again.

  4. 4

    Record the quote

  5. 5

    Set your own rates
