HO: Heritage Overlay

Maps a curtilage, not a rule — and sets no height limit of its own.

This page is not written yet, and we would rather say so

The rest of this library is built on things that can be pointed at — a clause, a number, a mechanism with a citation. This control has none of those written up yet. Publishing it now would mean filling it with general planning commentary that reads well and cites nothing, which is the failure the other pages exist to avoid.

What a written page has to answer
  1. 01The difference between the land the overlay maps and the heritage place itself. The overlay covers a curtilage; the schedule's heritage places table names what is actually significant, and the two are not the same extent. It needs a real example to be worth reading.
  2. 02Whether interim controls can apply before the scheme maps show them, and how a reader would find out. As a general statement that is worthless; with the mechanism attached it is the most useful thing this page could say.
  3. 03What a particular HO number keys to. It points at an entry in one council's schedule, and the only honest way to explain that is with real examples rather than a description of the pattern.

In the meantime, you can check a property directly. Search an address on the home page and read the zone and overlays recorded against that land, or run the numbers in the quick feasibility calculator. The pages that are written are on the control index for Victoria.
